Assisted the Township Planning Department in the development of a broadband business plan based on technology assessment, network planning, financial and economic analysis
Key elements of the project include:
- A clear understanding of the project scope and expected outcomes;
- Formation of project organizational structure (“project team”) consisting of experts with relevant qualifications and experience;
- A proper project methodology to deliver expected outcomes;
- Effective project management strategies;
- Clear project timelines with clearly identified project activities, key deliverables and completion dates; and,
- Required level of commitment by the project team.
How we Helped
Description of actual services provided within the assignment:
- Analysis of the current state of broadband coverage in the Township
- Validation of engineering design (prepared by another firm) of the FTTP (GPON) access platform for broadband connectivity for all households.
- Technology and network analysis to develop alternative feasible broadband infrastructure options for the Township.
- Development of a detailed business plan including financial forecast (revenues, CAPEX, OPEX) to support the future demand for higher speed (1Gig+) internet services across the township. For example, with the emergence of 5G wireless technologies, both wireline and wireless network will eventually converge into a fully integrated broadband network involving interoperations of fixed (wireline and wireless) access and mobile (wireless) networks.
- Recommended business model options (revenue sharing, P3, wholesale) to operate the broadband network
- Financial analysis based on the utility model (open access, fee model) for fiber to the home (FTTH) model

- Established the linkages between the socio-economic challenges and the economic impact assessment of broadband connectivity.
